Generosity Projects for Children
Project Handful helps children see that everyone has something to give.
Even a little, given with love, can make a big difference.
Help children discover that they are never too young to make a difference.
Find simple, hands-on ideas that fit into everyday life at home, school and church.
Step-by-step instructions for parents
1. Pray
Ask Jesus to show you someone who needs a little kindness today. Maybe have your friends all give a handful of the same thing to the church.
2. Pick a handful
With an adult, choose one handful to give – food (maize, rice etc.), small toys, crayons, seeds, or notes of encouragement.
3. Package it
Put your handful in a small bag or container and decorate it if you like.
4. Add a short note
Include a simple message or Bible verse to remind them that God loves them.
5. Give and talk
Deliver it with an adult, then chat afterwards: How did it feel to give?
Conversation prompts for families
- Who in our world might feel forgotten or unseen today?
- What is one thing we have plenty of that we could share?
- How do you think the person felt when we arrived with our handful?
- What does it mean that everyone — even a child — has something to give?
Practical generosity activities for children
- Decorate the bag with a Bible verse, kind drawing, or your handprint.
- Pray together for the person who will receive it, by name if you know it.
- Start a “Handful Habit” jar at home — add a coin, sweet, or note each week.
- Pick a “Handful Buddy” — a friend, neighbour, or helper you bless a little every week.
